The 18.01LONDON fashion archive is a curated collection of original garments, textiles and accessories that preserves the history, craftsmanship and evolution of fashion design. At 18.01LONDON, our archive contains over 30,000 museum-quality pieces spanning more than a century of fashion history. Unlike a museum, our archive is an active research resource, used by fashion houses, creative directors and design teams to inspire new collections, study garment construction, explore textile innovation and research historical references.
-
Our archive is available exclusively to fashion industry professionals. We regularly welcome fashion houses, emerging designers, creative directors, design studios, stylists, buying teams, costume departments, museums, publications and educational institutions undertaking professional research projects.
As a business-to-business archive, appointments are not open to the general public.
-
Every season, design teams visit the archive to support collection development. Research may focus on silhouettes, garment construction, knitwear, tailoring, embroidery, colour, fabric innovation, trims, detailing or historical references.
Before every appointment, we carefully review your brief and curate a tailored edit from our collection, allowing your team to spend valuable time researching the pieces most relevant to your project.
-
Yes. We regularly welcome clients from across Europe, North America and Asia. Many international teams plan archive appointments around research trips, fashion weeks and collection development schedules.
If travelling to London isn't possible, we can also discuss alternative research options and international garment shipping where appropriate.
-
Following your research appointment, selected garments can be hired for continued studio research, fittings, photography or collection development.
All hires are subject to our Archive Hire Agreement and are available on a minimum one-month rolling hire basis. We do not offer weekly hire periods. Availability depends on existing bookings and the condition of individual garments.
-
Every appointment begins long before you arrive.
We ask clients to share their collection brief, moodboards, references, themes and areas of research in advance. Our team then carefully selects relevant garments, textiles and accessories from across the archive, transforming the space into a highly focused research environment tailored specifically to your project.
This preparation allows your team to maximise valuable research time.
